This series contains three microfilm reels of minutes and agenda (1942-1966) of the Commission on American Missions, Division of American Missions, and the Division's Executive Committee. Minutes include resolutions; election and appointment of officers and staff; discussion of formation of departments; departmental, committee, and executive secretary reports; committee appointments; budget; and discussion and planning of division activities, programs, studies, publications and surveys. Also included are minutes from the Commission's organizational meeting, dated July 20, 1942. The National Lutheran Council (NLC) was formed on September 6, 1918 as a common agency of particpating Lutheran church bodies to administer domestic programs, publicize Lutheran activities and beliefs, and provide overseas emergency relief to areas devastated by World War I.
